New- Heat Reduced Shaft Seal
Over the last 4 years, RM Support checked 100 broken shaft seals. The majority of them were damaged by thermal or chemical attack as a result of overheating. Read about this research here.
The lifespan of a shaft seal is also much shorter than years ago. In the 1980s and early 90s a mechanical shaft seal could serve from five up to ten years. Today, we experience only 1 year of service. Keep in mind that the design of a shaft seal didn’t change at all over that time.
It is obvious that there is a clear need for a more reliable solution. RM Support as a developer of a double shaft seal has experience in innovative shaft seal solutions. Therefore we decided to design a modern, single shaft seal with a greater heat resistance.
The requirements for a “new” shaft seal:
To avoid damage, the modern seal must to be able to handle:
- Change in temperature
- Change in pressure(wider range)
- Generate less heat to avoid overheating
- Handle changes in drive speed
- Handle a wide range of refrigerant and oils
- Easy mounting
- And in these times be environment friendly (no use of heavy metals antimony)
The heat resistance of the new shaft seal comes from the newly developed composite material. This material provides a hardened surface with a unique topography for increased interfacial lubrication.
The shaft seal will produce 60% less heat than a “normal” shaft seal. The friction is reduced and sealing capacity is still the same. We called it an HR shaft seal - Heat Reduced shaft seal.
The HR shaft seal is a a cartridge type seal, so in the future it is only the wear parts that can be changed. The other characteristics are: easy mounting, low friction and long life materials.
The HR shaft seal can be 100% recycled by our RM seal change service, which is similar to our double seal with pre-warning system
On market request the HR shaft seal will be available in 2011-2012. However, for compressors from the Howden WRV range, Sabroe128-163 range and the GEA Grasso M, it will be available June-July 2010.Similar articles
